Why Should We Fear?

“The disciples went and they woke Jesus saying, ‘Lord, save us. We are going to drown!’ He replied, ‘You of little faith. Why are you so afraid?’ And then He got up and He rebuked the wind and the waves and it was completely calm. And the men were amazed and they asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him.’”                                         Matthew 8:25-27

In our world today, there are many voices speaking messages of fear.  Whether it be the imminent collapse of financial markets, political struggles or international relationships, there is lots of FEAR to go around.  Yet, for those of us who believe in the Father and in Jesus Christ, fear should not be an option.

Like the disciples, we can become preoccupied with the storm.  In doing so, we forget who we have in our boat with us.  We let our fear stampede us to the Lord.  Instead of scrambling to Him in a panic, God wants us to walk in faith secure in the knowledge of who HE is.  In fact, the more convinced you are of who Jesus is and what He is able to do, the less fear, worry, and anxiousness you will have.

We need to grow in our knowledge of God’s Word and our understanding of God’s sovereignty over our lives.  Nowhere do the Scripture promise that we will not encounter some storms.  He does promise us peace in the middle of those storms if we stand in faith.  Whatever your storm might be today or this week, trust the God who calms the storm with His own words.

See You Sunday!
